The District Court Judges of Kaufman County, Texas, seeks a professional financial manager with the requisite competence, experience, and ability to work diplomatically with multiple stakeholders to execute the duties of Kaufman County Auditor with excellence and integrity.
Compensation & Benefits Package Annual Salary of $101,028 - $122,819 based on experience and certifications.

Position Summary The position of Kaufman County Auditor encompasses all aspects of governmental accounting in accordance with GAAP and GASB, reporting and compliance, safeguarding of assets, financial leadership, budgeting, forecasting, management of an office with eight employees, financial / audit systems maintenance, and traditional audit functions - all within a county governmental environment requiring clear and helpful communication, and proactive financial stewardship.

Essential Responsibilities Manages and oversees activities and operations of general ledger fund accounting, accounts payable, federal, and state grants, capital project accounting, fixed asset accounting, financial reporting, risk management, debt management, and internal audit functions for the County.
General oversight of the financial system (Tyler/Munis ERP), financial records, and property of the County.
Prepares and submits mandatory compliance reports to applicable regional, state, and federal agencies.
Works closely with the County Judge's office and Commissioners' Court to assist with the development and execution of the County's annual budget.
Advises the Commissioners' Court on financial matters and works closely with the County Treasurer and all other county elected officials, department heads, and staff.
Assists all County officials and staff in complying with state and federal laws governing county finances.
Serves as primary contact to outside auditors during state, federal, and independent financial audits.
Oversees County internal audit services, including periodic reviews of financial reports of each department that collects or disburses County funds.
Interviews, hires, and ensures proper training of employees in the Auditor's Office.
Evaluates Auditor's Office employees' performance and recommends salary adjustments, promotions, and terminations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of accounting, auditing, and financial management principles, practices, and terminology.
Knowledge of advanced professional techniques used in the accounting field.
Knowledge of relevant local, state, and federal laws.
Knowledge of county departmental operations, organization, accountability, and responsibility.
Knowledge of generally accepted governmental accounting and auditing principles.
Knowledge in preparing and interpreting statistical, technical, and narrative reports.
Knowledge of administrative management and planning.
Experience in Governmental Accounting (Fund Accounting), Auditing, Pooled Cash, and Budgeting.
Experience with Governmental Accounting Software.
Experience with Governmental Grant accounting and reporting.
Experience with Excel.
Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
Ability to perform analysis and provide information to a variety of audiences.
Ability to supervise staff members efficiently.
Ability to work independently.
Must be a self-motivated problem solver and maintain strict confidentiality.
Education and
Experience:
Bachelor's degree in business administration with a major in accounting or finance or equivalent experience demonstrating exemplary financial literacy and managerial skills.
Be customer service-oriented, capable of working with elected officials and department heads.
CPA is beneficial but not required.
Competent in public business details.
A person of unquestionably good moral character and intelligence.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent will be in an office environment.
Employees are protected from weather conditions or contaminants but not necessarily occasional temperature changes.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to bend, carry, encounter electrical hazards, grasp/squeeze, use hand tools, hear, keyboard, kneel, lift, pull, push, reach, perform repetitive tasks, see far and near, sit, squat, stand, stoop, talk, twist, use his/her hands, walk, work alone and with others, and work overtime.
Lifting Demands:
This position is sedentary.
While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is required to lift to 25 lbs.
